Tech Run
Today was our tech rehearsal for our adaptation of The Tempest.
We started at 12pm with a very intense and serious talk from the director of technical theatre arts.
We also had a quick pep talk from our director Jack, then it was over to Gab in costume. We all had to be in full costume and although a few of us had heard a rumour that we would be getting our stage make up done, we didn't. Once we were all in costume we began our tech run through.
The open movement piece was a bit naff because for some reason everyone decided to clump together downstage right. This meant there was great difficulty when we were supposed to fall on either side of the boat, and everyone fell in cannon instead of simultaneously because the que was missed. Also not everyone was fully committed to their objectives, and therefore their movement motifs were half hearted.
Once the first scene was over a variety of us went back to the dressing room. My next scene wasn't until act 2 so I waited very nervously in the dressing room going over my lines.
When I went on I tried my best to sing my loudest and be as energetic and all over the place as I could. Jesse accidentally cut me off early, but I didn't let this phase me and carried on with the scene. I jumped around a lot more and walked more than I had in previous rehearsals.
In between scenes we went back to the dressing room to do a speed run of our lines, which I got perfect in the dressing room however as soon as I went back on stage to do my second scene (ACT 3 SCENE 2) my lines just left my body. I couldn't find them anywhere and although I did my best at improvising the scene literally fell on it's arse.
Although I did fluff a few lines and forgot a tiny bit of the staging, on the whole I think today didn't go too badly. It was a great experience to prepare us for the show and walking around the new theatre in the actual performance space we would be using really helped me get my bearings.
After the entire the run was over Jack have us several notes and then we ran through a few sticky spots in the play. We also smoothed out the transitions, by essentially 'topping' and 'tailing' each scene.
These are the following notes that I personally took down whilst Jack was giving us feedback on our performance.
